The Millennium villages’ concept is rapidly expanding to new countries. Liberia, Cameroon and Benin are implementing the concept while Chad, Congo Brazzaville, Niger, Central Africa Republic, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Mauritania, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone and Burkina Faso have requested help to develop project documents and select sites.
Expansion to other geographical areas within the first generation of Millennium Villages countries has been impressive. In Mali, the scaling up covers 166 communes and more than 2 million people in the North of the country. A planning phase is now in implementation comprising MDG based local planning and capacity building for local actors.
In Ghana, scaling up of Bonsaaso: activities to the entire Amansie West district (200 000 persons) using the MDG based district plan developed with the MVP teams.
In Nigeria, the scaling up concerns more than 20 Million people in 113 LGAs and cover three sectors: agriculture, health and education.
